It's amazing how much work is needed to get a project like this off the ground! We had been aiming for a first edition before the summer holidays but that became an impossibility when the magnitude of the tasks facing us became apparent. So, we've decided that the first edition will now be at the end of September and in that time we will be gathering stories from local people like you, stories about the places, people, organisations, gossip, events and other happenings around the HP16 area. But it won't be of any relevance without your input, so please tell us what you want included, take photographs, write articles - just get involved.

Welcome to the home of The HP16 Business Network! Recently, nearly fifty local business people attended a meeting at Missenden Abbey. This was a trial meeting to assess the demand for a local business network and I thought you might be interested to know some of the outcomes. The attendees ranged from the self-employed to directors of larger companies. Of these people, forty one completed a feedback form and forty indicated that they wanted a local business network, so there appears to be a significant level of demand. But what should the network be? What should it do? And what do we all want to get out of it? Well, that’s the next step and this website will hopefully form the focus of those discussions. But remember that this is just the first step; only a small percentage of the business people in the area joined us at Missenden Abbey so the scope for the network could be huge. |

Have you ever wondered why it is that Great Missenden, Prestwood and the surrounding villages have little or no coverage in the local press? It can't be because nothing happens here - we have over 10000 residents, well over 500 businesses, close to 50 clubs, societies, schools and other community organisations. So why the media vacuum? Well, frankly, the huge media organisations that run the Free Press, Herald and the Bucks Exaggerator aren't interested in us because their focii are Wycombe, Aylesbury and Chesham. So that's it then, we should just accept it. Or should we? Well, no actually: in the not-too-distant future you will receive the first edition of a new community newspaper called The Source and it will focus on the HP16 area with news and views, comments and articles from your neighbourhood. It will cover the things that interest you as a local resident and, more importantly, it will contain a section just about business in this area - and that's where you come in: if you want to write an article about your business, or about a topic that affects you as a local business person, please contact Colin Veysey or Stuart Jones (both members of this forum). This is a real opportunity for us to shape the community as well as to generate some more business for each other, so let's exploit it! |
